In response to emergency situations occurring throughout other universities across the globe, Swinburne University wanted to implement an audio paging system throughout all campuses to disseminate messages when required. They recognised the immediate need to have a system in place capable of managing critical situations and ensuring greater student and staff welfare during critical situations.
Previously, Alerton Australia/Leading Edge Automation was able to develop an interface to the clients VOIP system to enable pre-recorded .wav files to be broadcast for specific events and to specific groups to a selected number of buildings.
The new solution revolved around coordinating Fire, IT and power/data service providers to expand the system to nearly all buildings. Creating this required expanding the existing integrated BMS/VOIP system to provide public announcements using an electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS), Occupant Warning System (OWS) and Tone Generator (TGEN) networks. Utilising an Optergy Enterprise BMS, this allowed the university to have a unified system in place to broadcast announcements directly to all campuses from a single interface, either prerecorded messages or handset calls throughout all campuses.
The results of using the Alerton Australia/Leading Edge Automation implemented audio paging system mean the university can now relay different messages in response to different scenarios all from one touch point. The campuses are now well equipped to broadcast announcements throughout all campuses from a Central Command Centre using the Optergy Enterprise BMS.
The capability to spread set announcements in response to a variety of scenarios across wide campus areas has drastically increased the campuses security and emergency responses. This will assist them in improving their opportunities to communicate and engage with those on campuses and help them provide a safer environment for their staff, students, and visitors.
